The Guest,
9.–12. December

Spilles: Thu 09. Dec Fri 10. Dec Sat 11. Dec Sun 12. Dec

The return of The Guest will be the final performance of the Zero Visibility Corp.

After 25 years, the company is disbanding. Zero Visibility and its artistic director and choreographer Ina Christel Johannessen, have been one of the leading and most influential exponents of dance art in Norway, and even more so internationally. Unfortunately, the company is now bidding us farewell.

This will be in the form of the long-awaited return of The Guest from 2015, as a ‘grand finale’. An impressive 12 dancers who all have a long association with the company will take part in the production.

The title The Guest is taken from Camus´ L'Hôte, which translates both as the guest and the host. Camus uses this novella to reflect on issues raised by the political situation in French Algeria, a colonial conflict in which he himself refused to take sides.

Zero Visibility explores the ambiguous battle between hospitality and friendship, opposition and hostility. How do we treat outsiders who come into our community? How does the relationship with your fellow man affect your ability to make the right choice? The Guest deals with the energies, physics, substances, individuals – the relationships between people – put into an architectural space that signals borders and migration.

Zero Visibility Corp. was founded in 1996 by Ina Christel Johannessen, choreographer and artistic director. After studying choreography at Oslo National Academy of the Arts, ICJ embarked on her career immediately. This has resulted in more than 70 works, 23 of which have been with Zero Visibility. The company has toured and produced internationally from the very start. Sydney Opera House, Théâtre National de Chaillot in Paris, Sadler’s Wells in London, Place Des Arts Montreal, Mercat de Flores in Barcelona, Movimentos in Wolfsburg, Concertgebouw in Bruges, Festival Cervantino in Mexico and Shanghai Arts Centre are some of the venues to which the company has been invited. These works have varied in size from 2 to 19 dancers. Over the course of these 25 years, 52 dancers have appeared on stage for Zero Visibility. For the last few years, Zero Visibility’s work has concentrated on themes relating to the enormous changes in nature, the environment and the climate. The productions typically involve high-energy physical movements, blended with poetic and often theatrical elements, in which the lighting and scenography always influence the work's overall context and dramaturgy.
