Queer the W*ack

Two days filled with explosive dance battles, inspiring workshops, a panel talk – and of course a fierce queer disco party. We celebrate the iconic dance style punking/whacking and the queer club culture it comes from.

This year we’re turning it up with a roller-skate disco and three competition categories: Whacking 1vs1, Club Styles (vogue, house, whacking) 2vs2*, and Best Dressed. International judges, an MC and DJs will be present – and the doors are open to everyone, regardless of age or identity.

Punking/whacking was created by BIPOC queer men in 1970s Los Angeles – a raw, expressive club style inspired by silent film, comic books, and martial arts, danced to real disco. It’s all about attitude, posing, improvisation, and emotion.

The initiative is led by Ronald Belaza, Norway’s leading w*acker, an international battle winner and dance educator. Together with a strong network in Norway, Europe, and Asia, he is bringing the style to new heights.
