Fluid borders – geographic, political, social and personal.

Borders separate us from them, the known from the unknown, me from you – and while they do, by force or imperceptibly, they shift, move and even dance. Borda is a production about transcending the barriers that – visibly or invisibly – extend and surround us. All these barriers of barbed wire, concrete and hedges, but also of beliefs, viewpoints and differences.
The Brazilian Lia Rodrigues, one of the most influential voices in contemporary dance, returns to Dansens Hus with her latest production, Borda, a powerful exploration of what separates us and what brings us together.
In Portuguese, “borda” can mean both “boundary” and “decoration”, a play on words that reflects the core of the production: Boundaries are not only walls or fences. They are also fluid, alive and full of opportunities. Using raw, poetic choreography and the intense presence of nine dancers, Rodrigues transforms no-man’s land into meeting places, where opposites touch and perhaps give rise to something new.

Soundtrack: Miguel Bevilacqua (from excerpts of a recording made in 1938 in northern Brazil by the Folklore Research Mission conceived by writer and intellectual Mario de Andrade and excerpts from the public domain music “Amor Amor Amor”, part of the repertoire of “Cavalo Marinho”, a Brazilian dance performed by Luiz Paixão. )
