In collaboration with Dansens Hus, Thomas Talawa Prestø and Tabanka present a digital version of their latest work, Jazz Ain’t Nothing but Soul.

The show bases itself on what was once known as the music and dance of the Devil, jazz, while also including elements of «Black noice» – a noise consisting of mostly silence. As is known, jazz has roots in Africa, and the fabulous dancers of Tabanka goes to town exploring the genre’s rich artistic and musical tradition. Bypassing any violent elements in its history, Tabanka rather focuses on the presence of their ancestors, creating an expression of dance and music rooted deeply in the origin of jazz – and yet sprung from all Norwegian-African vibes.
Collaborators on Jazz Ain’t Nothing but Soul include Monica Ifejilika, known from the artist collective Queendom, world renowned percussionist and musician, Sidiki Camara, the known African musician, Solo Diarra, and the RnB singer, and recent Spellemann nominee, Stian Ehiabhi Omole Jensen.
Artistic director at Dansens Hus Samme Raeymaekers will host an after-talk directly after the performance.

9. mars 2020 gikk sceneteppet på Dansens Hus ned for siste gang etter barneforestillingen MÅNEmåne, og barn og foreldre gikk fornøyd ut i vårsolen. Siden den gang har dørene for det meste vært stengt. Pandemien rammet hardt og brutalt. Over natten ble tusenvis av frilansere og kunstnere arbeidsledige. Heldigvis ser det ut til å gå mot lysere tider. I samarbeid med produksjonsselskapet Maskinen skal kompaniet Tabanka vise en digital innspilling av sin helt nye forestilling Jazz Aint Nothing but Soul i perioden 27. april-2. mai.
