Workshop: Taoufiq Izeddiou

In this workshop, led by the choreographer Taoufiq Izeddiou, the participants will immerse themselves in a realm where dance meets trance, bodily exhaustion, and the transformation of the individual into a political body.

Izeddiou explores the power of trance and movement to transcend physical and mental limitations, enabling you to transition from a body burdened with daily concerns to a body firmly rooted in the political space. He invites you to go beyond the confines of traditional dance. The session is based on the choreographic piece Hmadcha, and serves as a catalyst for personal and collective growth, offering a platform to examine social, political, and cultural issues through the language of movement.

Space takes center stage in this artistic project, and you will engage with concepts such as diagonals, orthogonality, and spatial occupation.
The workshop offer an opportunity to delve into the notion of "glitch" within the context of dance. By incorporating intentional interruptions, disruptions, or malfunctions into your movement, you will discover new expressive possibilities and open doors to the unexpected.

Additionally, the workshop will explore the dynamics of working with mass. To delve into group dynamics, synchronization of movements, and interactions among participants, fostering the creation of energetic body compositions rich in human connections. You will engage in exercises that require cohesion, cooperation, and unity, creating intricate choreographic tapestries that blur individual boundaries and emphasize the strength of the collective.

Whether you are an experienced dancer or simply curious about exploring the potential of your body, these workshops are open to all. This choreographic experience twill push the limits of your creativity, explore new territories, and connect with fellow dance enthusiasts.

Bio:
Contemporary dance came into Taoufiq Izeddiou's life through a training he describes as "wild." His encounter with Bernardo Montet, director of the National Choreographic Center of Tours, introduced him to the professional stage in 1997.

Parallel to his career as a dancer, Taoufiq Izeddiou created his first choreography in 1999. The following year, the solo "Danse Nord" by Suzanne Buirge put him on the map of the choreographic world. In 2003, the success of the group piece "Fina K'enti" inspired him to establish Anania, the first contemporary dance company in Morocco. Two years later, he created the contemporary dance festival "On marche" in Marrakech.

Driven by a concern for transmission and pedagogy, he established the first contemporary dance training program in 2003, from which several dancers of the Anania company emerged. In 2007, he obtained his State Diploma in contemporary dance in France.

Since then, straddling between Morocco and the rest of the world, he has created works that explore the tensions between tradition and modernity, liberating bodies in the embrace of the night. Taoufiq's choreographies have been presented in prestigious venues of contemporary dance such as Danse Afrique Danse, Montpellier Danse, Charleroi Danse, Rencontres Chorégraphiques internationales de Seine-St-Denis, CND Paris, Tanzquartier Vienna, Transamériques in Canada, and more.
