Would you like to try weaving traditional paula / komage bands? Before the performance Vaimovoima by the Kven dance company Karhutanssi Dance Company, you can try real Kven Käsityö – traditional handwork. Kven artist Eli Seppola Simonsen will set up looms in the foyer and show the audience how to weave. You can take a piece of the band you have worked on home and use it as a bracelet or bookmark.
Biography:
Eli Seppola Simonsen is a Kven artist living in Oslo. In her art, she combines traditional Kven expressions with modern media and interpretations. She has exhibited sculptures at a number of museums in collaboration with the artist group Jokiroikka, and has held weaving workshops for adults and children. She also works as an illustrator, and has traveled around with DKS to tell stories about the Kvens and Kven culture with kantele music and poetry.
