ESCA

What traces do we carry from a time and culture before us? The workshop will provide an insight into the tasks and practices used in the project SIYA. The project explores different forms of interstices, places where ambiguity and complexity arise. We will work with transformation and ambiguity as a queer and decolonial strategy to search for new ways of being and relating.

Bio:
Carl Aquilizan (they/them) is a Norwegian-Filipino dance artist based in Oslo. They explore decolonial and transformative practices from a queer and multicultural perspective, seeking to challenge Western norms and open up new ways of thinking. In their latest and upcoming projects, they examine their Filipino heritage and what it means to carry the knowledge and stories of their ancestors in their body. The works also look at traces of pre-colonial worldviews in Filipino language, culture and contemporary expressions.

Carl Aquilizan trained at Spin Off Forstudium i Dans and the Northern School of Contemporary Dance. Previous works include dis_func (2021), Flower Boy (2022/24), Blooming (2022/23) and Out of Place (2025), which have been performed at a number of venues in Norway, including Flower Boy at Dansens Hus in 2024. They also perform for a number of other choreographers and companies.
