Saturday 21 March at 6–6.30 p.m., Per Sundnes invites the audience into Antonio Lucio Vivaldi's fascinating artistry. The focus is particularly on the masterpiece The Four Seasons (Le quattro stagioni) and the collection Il Cimento dell'Armonia e dell'Inventione, which choreographers Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Radouan Mriziga have used as the basis for tonight's performance.

Sundnes highlights how Vivaldi combined technical brilliance and how these works challenge – and play with – the balance between structure and imagination, and why Vivaldi's music continues to captivate, surprise and inspire.

The presentation gives both new listeners and experienced music lovers a deeper understanding of how The Four Seasons is part of a larger artistic whole, and how Il Cimento dell'Armonia e dell'Inventione represents a high point in the Baroque era's willingness to experiment musically.
