This edition of Åpen Improvisasjon (Open Improvisation) takes place at Dansens Hus. While the event is designed for professional performers, anyone interested in improvisation is welcome to come and observe.
Åpen Improvisasjon is a collaborative event co-hosted by Danseinformasjonen and Scenehuset that has been running since 2024. The project originates from dance artist Edith Askeland's and musician Markus Anskau's desire to explore the act of listening across the disciplines of music and dance among professionals, creating a playful, grounded space free from the pressure to produce something of tangible value. It is now a recurring event led by Edith in collaboration with various musicians and dancers; the goal is to test methods for fostering interaction and connection, while also facilitating professional networking across disciplines.
Four sessions have been held so far; the fifth was scheduled for May 5, 2026, at Scenehuset but was postponed due to a fire in Scenehuset's building.
Biography:
Edith Askeland (b. 1998) is an Oslo-based dance artist who completed her Bachelor’s degree in Contemporary Dance at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts in the summer of 2020. Since graduating, she has worked in a range of collaborations with various choreographers and institutions. Her interests include improvisational work involving music, listening, and playing with varying degrees of tension and intensity. She received a performance grant from the Fund for Performing Artists in 2024 for her work as dancer. In 2026, she received a working grant for young/emerging artists for her performing and creative work.
CLINOMANIA is a live electronic improvisation band. They create music in real-time using laptops and digital equipment. All members are connected within the same ecosystem—physically, mentally, and musically, collaboratively generating familiar yet unfamiliar sounds reminiscent of club music wrapped in a fantasy-world aesthetic. The five members met while studying Songwriting and Music Production at Kristiania University College and have been an established live electronic improv band for three years. CLINOMANIA uses MIDI controllers, synthesizers, and vocals to create an improvised soundscape.
The members are: Rebekka Andresen, Maren Ylva Nysæther Sørensen, Marta Elise Bøshaugen Strøm, Sunniva Åsheim Eliassen, and Nikolas Steffensen Krane.
This time, the spots for musicians will be filled by CLINOMANIA, but if you would like to improvise as a musician in future editions, please contact Edith Askeland. If you wish to dance this, please register so we can get an idea of how many people will be on the dance floor.
