MIA HABIB IS SEEKING VOLUNTEERS FOR A PERFORMANCE at Dansens Hus
11 years after the performance first saw the light of day, the legendary piece A song to… is being restaged—and being more relevant than ever.
Mia Habib Productions is looking for volunteers for the performance A song to…, which will be presented at Dansens Hus (Oslo) on August 21 and 22. During the performance, 50 volunteers will be involved on stage.
How can you contribute?
A song to… is a full-length work with 16 dancers and 50 volunteers, which premiered on September 19, 2015, at Dansens Hus, Oslo. This iconic performance will now be restaged in August 2026. The work is inspired by monumental art and mass gatherings. During the performance, there will be sequences with up to 66 people on stage, running, walking, and standing together in a large group.
This is intended to give the audience a sense that vast numbers of people can invade the stage and that difference is a strength. To carry out the sequences with more than 60 people, we are seeking individuals of all ages, sizes, ethnicities, and backgrounds. We are looking for people who will go on stage together with the 16 performers. What makes this performance unique is that both the dancers and the volunteers will be nude throughout the performance. The company has extensive experience with this type of work and with processes that ensure everyone involved feels safe and well cared for. No prior stage or dance experience is required in order to participate.

About the choreographer:
Mia Habib is an Oslo-based choreographer and dancer, and the incoming artistic director of Carte Blanche, Norway’s national company for contemporary dance. Habib is behind numerous productions, and her works have been presented in more than thirty countries, from major opera houses to public spaces. She has published several books and established herself as a strong voice in the arts and social debate.
In 2024, Mia received the Hans Christian Ostrø Memorial Prize for her innovative, diverse, and courageous artistic work as a bridge-builder both in Norway and internationally. The purpose of the prize is to honor artists who distinguish themselves as bridge-builder between different cultures, or individuals who work against violence, terrorism, and human rights violations, expressed through an art form. She received the award in part for her latest production, Samkome, which is a collective ritual of mourning in public space—an attempt to hold each other’s grief—where the audience actively participates in the ritual.
