«ALMOST HUMAN»
I have a recurrent image, which inspired me to create this dance: a sort of
alien
It’ s «someone», or you could call it «something», existing only in my
imagination, similar to the Little Prince.
And this figure, almost mythical and very special, just to me, tries to behave like
«us», like you or me for that matter, but it can’ t.
It can’ t cry, it can’ t scream, it can’ t laugh...
And somehow, it doesn’ t feel alienated.
It doesn’ t understand the concept.
Just keeps on trying.
It’ s almost human.
Like you
And keeps on moving.
Like me
«Almost Human» it’ s an abstract solo to the delicate, fragile and melancholic
music of the critically acclaimed Icelandic composer Olafur Arnalds.
The idea is to utilize the cliché of an alien (distant to the human kind) as a
medium to provoke different thoughts and feelings about the, horribly sad,
human concept of alienation. The solo is part of a greater work (in progress)
about immigration and integration called «I’ m disintegrating».
The work features two exquisite costumes: a fully dressed Swarovski Cristal cat
suit made by the bold Stevie Stewart and a high tech vest made by futurist
Japanese artist Kei Ito, two of London’ s foremost fashion and costume designers.
Daniel Proietto is an award winning choreographer and a highly profiled
performer. In Norway he has worked closely with the renowned companies
Carte Blanche, Zero Visibility corp. and Alan Lucien in winter guests.
