For the first time, choreography students in the graduating class at Oslo National Academy of the Arts will present their final examination performances at Dance House Norway.
We are looking forward to seeing their creations, and are excited to see what kind of work is being done by the next generation of choreographers. Dance House Norway is also pleased to be conducting an important collaboration with Norway’s most influential educational institution in the area of theatre arts. You can read more about what the choreographers say about their own works here: Elle Sofe Henriksen, Sigurd J. Heide and Paulo Fernandes Jr., three graduating choreography students at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts.

A body is in front of you – the physical evidence of a person, a culture, an identity. I am a solid form, but what I am cannot be reduced to a solid form. The self is floating, flying, moving around and interacting with everything around it. You see me, but at the same time you do not. Elle Sofe Henriksen uses the impermanence and ambiguity of dance and the paradoxical dexterity of the body to be both true and false simultaneously in order to express something that is universal for all people. Now that he is emerging into the professional world, Paulo F. Jr. is prepared to make his mark as a concept artist. He is intent on developing and stating concepts through choreography. His ideas are centred on what is urban, focusing on the development of culture in inner city life: cultural directions and trends, and the tendency to transform the old into the new in a modern world where people prefer to communicate through images.
Choreographer and images: Sigurd Johan Heide
This presentation revolves around an odd character who regards the human world as a challenge. How do ordinary people treat those who are outside the bounds of normality and normal behaviour? Who defines what is normal and standard? Sigurd Johan Heide (b. 1979) is a folk dancer, teacher and choreographer, and works with stage presentations of local traditional dance. sigurdjohanheide.wordpress.com
